National Coastwatch defines an incident as any event where a Watchkeeper initiates a call to any emergency service (HMCG, Police, Fire & Rescue Service or Ambulance Service) and notifies them of a possible incident or where NCI is asked for assistance by an SAR or Emergency Service.
The Watchkeeper will then provide assistance to the allocated resources, helping to ensure a successful outcome to the incident. All incidents are then entered into our secure database (including the HMCG or Police incident reference number). This database provides valuable statistical information, together with enabling us to further develop or procedures and ensure that all stations are aware of new developments in SAR.
