NCI Mundesley involved in suspected UXO

A member of the public reported a suspected unexploded hand grenade on the beach in front of the old Manor Hotel. They called 999 to report their concerns and emailed some images of the item through to Humber CoastGuard. NCI Mundesley confirmed with Humber CG that the photographs had been received and Bacton CoastGuard Rescue Team (CRT) were tasked to investigate. Watchkeepers at NCI Mundesley and the CRT made their way to the item which was thought to be a hand grenade. Police secured the site overnight and the following morning the Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal team arrived. NCI Watchkeepers assisted by placing warning signs that the beach was closed while the incident was ongoing. Eventually the item was safely detonated by the Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal team, the all clear given and the beach reopened.
