Watchkeepers at NCI Nare Point observed a floating mass half a nautical mile from the station. Initially it was thought to be a ‘ghost net’*. As the mass was considered to be a possible hazard to navigation and to wildlife, Falmouth CoastGuard were informed. The station also gave the CoastGuard information about a vessel that was fishing close by. The CoastGuard contacted the vessel on CH16 and asked them to report on the mass. The CoastGuard informed the station that it was a mass of jelly fish. They asked the station to monitor and requested that they call any vessels that did not have AIS on CH 65, and were likely to run into the mass.
