The National Coastwatch Lookout has a Point / Tilt / Zoom camera which covers from the Mowlem Theatre round to Durlston Castle; there is also a similar camera fitted on the pier providing total coverage of the bay and, particularly, of Buck Shore and the waters alongside the western side of the pier to the Stone Quay . With these and the camera at the lifeboat station we have coverage  of all the sea both sides and to the front of the watch and lifeboat station.

Our Public Camera. In addition, we have a camera located on the Lookout which sweeps continuously round from The Mowlem Theatre to Durlston Head; its live images are available to the Public by visiting Swanage NCI camera

The light with a range of 9Nm has guided shipping and small craft for over 120 years on passage between Poole, the Solent, the Needles and Portland and Weymouth and is the first waypoint visible when sailing from Cherbourg to Poole.

Since 1991 the light has been automatically controlled, but the tower is manned on opening days to receive visitors.

The mission of the National Coastwatch Institute is to be the ears and eyes of the coast, cliffs and footpaths for the safety of all users. The NCI is a registered charity and depends entirely on public donations for equipment and the ability to maintain a safety watch.
