Man Overboard

Watchkeepers at NCI Portland Bill heard reports of a Mayday call from a yacht in the Solent area. The Solent Coastguard responded and the Weymouth lifeboat was tasked to the scene. The other crew of the yacht carried out a ‘Man Overboard’ drill and recovered the casualty safely. The casualty was transferred to hospital for observation. A ‘Man Overboard’ drill is a critical element of crew safety designed to prepare the crew to act swiftly in the event of a crew member falling overboard. The drill ensures that everyone on deck knows best practices and has rehearsed their assigned role.
