A solo laser dinghy sailor contacted NCI Prawle Point on Ch 65 requesting assistance. National Coastwatch contacted the Falmouth Coastguard, giving details, bearing and distance from NCI Prawle Point. Two local yachts also went to the assistance of the casualty, one remaining alongside until the all weather Lifeboat (AWLB) arrived. Salcombe AWLB was launched; they located casualty vessel, and escorted the sailor safely back to Salcombe harbour.

The Dinghy sailor has since phoned NCI Prawle Point to thank them for their assistance. The sailor learned a hard lesson. They were trying to sail too far in strong winds! They now plan to join a local dinghy sailing club.
