Across all our 61 stations, our highly trained watchkeepers work closely with search and rescue partners as well as with the local community, helping to help save lives along the coast.
Working closely usually means contact by VHF radio and phone but putting faces to names and meeting up in person is always a welcome opportunity.
Nine NCI Boscastle volunteers were fortunate to enjoy a tour of HM Coastguard’s Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Falmouth, one of 10 centres around the UK, in addition to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Hampshire.
Peter Lakie, NCI Boscastle’s Deputy Station Manager was one of them. He said:
“We’d like to thank all the team at the Falmouth MRCC, it was great to put faces to the many voices we’re familiar with by phone and radio.
“It was a fascinating tour and we had a really informative and enjoyable discussion about how we can provide the local knowledge to assist with reports of search and rescue incidents,” he said.

HM Coastguard provide 24/7 operations, ensuring the safety of the UK’s coastal waters. It is a privilege and pleasure to work with them as part of the UK’s Search and Rescue community.
