BBC iPlayer – Saving Lives at Sea – Series 9: 8. Pressure
Watch again and see how our NCI Hengistbury Head crew helped guide the RNLI lifeboat from Mudeford to the exact location of a kayaker who was in serious trouble off the Bournemouth coast.
It was a race against time and a life or death situation. And the crew’s search was not over when they rescued the kayaker…
The NCI crew couldn’t relax either as the casualty said that he’d been with a group of six others. All of whom needed to be accounted for.
Our crews played a vital role in the rescue. Firstly locating the casualty and then looking for the rest of the missing party and relaying critical information to HM Coastguard and Mudeford RNLI.
NCI Hengistbury Head‘s Peter was on watch that day and was interviewed for the programme. He said: “When we found they were all safe and well, we were well pleased. We’ve done our job. We did the job that we’re there for.”
Ian from Mudeford RNLI said: “After a shout like this, you’re really happy that all your training…and working with a multi agency has gone well and it’s a really good feeling that we’re doing it right.”
