25th February 2023.SOS Radio Week starts at 00:00 on the 1st May and end at 23:59 on 31st May every year. Its objective is to raise awareness of the invaluable, and amazingly selfless, work performed by the volunteers of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) and other independent lifeboat and rescue organisations
Their website says “SOS Radio Week is one month of fun, an opportunity for amateur radio operators to celebrate the work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI), members of the National Inshore Lifeboat Association (NILA) and other independent lifeboat and rescue organisations around the coasts of the British Isles (UK, Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man). In doing so we aim to raise as much awareness for them as we can; near, far and wide. Both the RNLI and NCI are funded 100% by voluntary donations and many of the independent lifeboat and rescue organisations are too. Any licensed Amateur Radio operator, or Amateur Radio club, based in the British Isles can register to run an official SOS Radio Week station. All you need to do is let us know what callsign you will be using during the event, together with your location, and you can become an official Registered SOS Radio Week Station, promoting the work of the RNLI, the NCI and independent lifeboat and rescue organisations throughout the event.”
