6th July 2018. Callington Tesco’s community champion Carrie-Ann Bailey visited the volunteers at the National Coastwatch Institute at Rame Head, to learn more about their facilities and see first-hand how funding from the store’s ‘bags of help’ scheme win will be put to use.
The National Coastwatch volunteers received £2,000 from the scheme, supported by Groundwork, after coming second in the recent round of in-store customer votes. The station at Rame Head will use the money to fund new radar and camera equipment to help them keep a watchful eye on the surrounding waters.
Carrie-Ann said ‘On days when visibility is poor, the volunteers can’t see more than a few feet ahead, but with this new equipment they will be able to monitor the waters a lot more effectively and keep people safe regardless of the conditions, and that is all down to the public voting for this organisation with their blue tokens at the end of their shop.’
