CHRISTMAS COMES EARLY TO NCI LEE-ON-THE-SOLENT

19th December 2021. This morning Jonathan Moore and Vaughan Bidewell of Montserrat Events met with Lee-on-the-Solent NCI Station Manager Ron, and Fundraising Coordinator Phil at the Station Lookout.

Montserrat Events is the not for profit organisation that organised the fantastic festivals in Lee-on-the-Solent this year, including Summer in Lee, the Victory Festival and Christmas in Lee. The organisation presented NCI Lee-on-the-Solent with a cheque for £500.00 and it has been decided that this will be spent on new optical equipment (telescope or binoculars) for use by the duty watchkeepers.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions caused by COVID, the visitors were unable on this occasion to visit the rebuilt station, so everyone braved the very chilly car park to the front of the station to present the cheque.

NCI Lee-on-the-Solent were extremely grateful for this generous and unexpected donation and look forward to future joint ventures.

The photograph shows Jonathan Moore presenting the cheque to Station Manager Ron.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
