Spring Cleaning & Maintenance

Great Orme NCI is observing the social distancing advise as per the Welsh government advisory, as a result the station is not operating any watches as yet, but we are also taking advantage of the better weather to do a few of those important housekeeping chores that winter got in the way of and carrying out security checks.North Wales Police are also carrying out patrols along Marine Drive please remember the regulations in Wales are stay at home and exercise is limited to close to your home.

We are doing our best to ensure the spread of the covid virus is slowed down and quickly contained and hope you are too, so we are not allowing visitors to the station presently, the car park is closed  and of course the cafe is still closed too. Please dont take chances near to steep cliffs, if its windy or hade recent rainfall you could lose your footing and the consequences could be fatal!

Whilst Marine Drive currently is closed to all but local residential traffic we ask you to be extra careful whilst either walking or cycling along this road, keep to the path if your walking and keep your speed down particularly on corners and narrow sections if your driving home, remember sheep and goats are likely to be on the road and sometimes cyclists forget that its two way traffic, so be  extra careful, the local hospitals and the emergency services are busy enough, so lets not add to their workload.

If you see anything that needs intervention from the emergency services on the cliffs, shoreline or coastal waters call the COASTGUARD on 999.

If we all work together following the government guidelines on social distancing, hand hygeine and shopping responsibly we can get through this emergency with minimum casualties.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
