Fishing boats to look out for

 

Swanage is a fishing hub albeit a small one. The boats out of the bay are a diverse mixture of netting and potting boats. Below are a mixture of each and a description of their types of fishing.

The number on each boat is unique to that boat and shows where they are registered for example as above FY 851 is registered in Fowey in Cornwall and PE 1087 is registered in Poole. By following the link fishing vessel registration codes you can track vessels all over the country.

As can be seen from the above two pictures, fishing vessels come in all shapes and sizes. Above left E 499 registered in Exeter and right PE 219 registered in Poole.

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire. 

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
