Charmouth

Welcome to NCI Charmouth

Callsign CharmouthNCI on CH65 for radio checks and your queries about local conditions.

NCI Charmouth is a satellite station of NCI Lyme Bay and all Charmouth watchkeepers also work at the parent site at Hive Beach. We work as a closely-knit team covering the whole of Lyme Bay.

Please note we gladly take radio check calls - but on Ch65, not Ch16 and not Ch67. Just call 'CharmouthNCI' twice on Ch65 and give your vessel name then wait for an answer. If your 'vessel' is too small for a name, it helps if you invent something that lets us identify you visually e.g 'RedBoarder' or 'MackerelKayak'

Visitor Policy
Visitor Policy: Visitors are normally most welcome at this historically interesting Lookout although, when an incident is ongoing or when training is taking place, this may not always be convenient, and the duty watchkeeper may ask visitors to call back later. Also, the Lookout is very compact so visitors are more likely to be standing in the doorway than invited 'in'.
Access

From Charmouth village centre follow Lower Sea Lane to the Beach.  Turn right at sea front just past the Charmouth Heritage Centre and walk up the slope past the WCs and the lookout is dead ahead.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
