Herne Bay

Welcome to NCI Herne Bay lookout station

Visitor Policy
Visitors are normally most welcome at the lookout although, when an incident is ongoing, this may not always be convenient and the duty watchkeeper may ask visitors to call back later. The station does have a DEFIBRILLATOR in case of emergencies.
Access

The station is situated along Herne Bay sea front in the direction of Reculver Towers just past Kings Hall and the Herne Bay Yacht Club. There is a flag pole with the NCI flag flying when the station is open. Access to the station for visitors and watchkeepers is via a steep slope or steps. There is limited parking for watchkeepers next to the station, on the espanade requiring a key to unlock the barrier

Local Hazards
Access to the station can be via the many footpaths and steps leading down from Beacon Hill. Care should be taken in winter months as the foot paths are fairly steep and can be slippery.

About

Currently 56 NCI stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteers keeping watch around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Hornsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

NCI watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the NCI ensures that high standards are met.
