NCI CAISTER HELPS WITH CHRISTMAS LIGHT SWITCH ON

28th November 2017. After a successful debut Christmas light switch-on last year, a Norfolk village is pulling out all the stops this year, aided by the team at NCI Caister.

Caister is preparing for its countdown to Christmas on Friday at 7pm outside the Council Hall in the High Street. There will be carols from the volunteers at the National Coastwatch Institution watchstation at Caister as well as the Junior School choir, Soundwave Singers, and others in the village. Throughout the village 16 Christmas trees are being put up and businesses are also being encouraged to decorate their buildings for the big occasion

The NCI Caister watchstation occupies the former Lifeboat Station look-out by kind invitation of the Independent Caister Volunteer Lifeboat Service and is unique amongst NCI look-outs in that it is situated within operational lifeboat facilities as opposed to redundant Coastguard buildings more usually taken over by the charity.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
