3rd July 2016. This year saw another successful Royal Cornwall Show for the Cornish NCI Stations.

 Once again organised by NCI Stepper Point’s Colin Hyde and NCI Boscastle’s John Davis, the show stall was also manned by personnel from NCI Stations at Rame Head, Charlestown, Polruan, and St Agnes over the three days of this prestigious event.  Each watchkeeper manned the stand for half a day and then had the rest of the day free to circulate amongst the crowd and enjoy the show. The stand was situated alongside the Armed Forces, RNLI, Air Ambulance and other services and the NCI stand had a comprehensive display covering the vital work of the NCI.

Over the period of the show visitors to the stand included watchkeepers from at least 12 of our stations including the local stations St Ives, Penzance and Nare Point to stations as far east as Froward Point.  We were also visited by representatives from Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service, Falmouth Sail Training Ships, Falmouth Coastguard and the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Jane Harley.  The stand also proved to be a valuable recruiting ground.   During the three days of the show at least 14 people showed an interest in joining the NCI and their names have been passed on to their nearest NCI Station Manager.  Many complements were received on the display explaining the NCI’s involvement in Search & Rescue and next year it is hoped that the display will represent all 13 Cornish NCI Stations.
