GOOD LUCK COMES IN THREES FOR NCI ABERYSTWYTH

19th October 2018. They say good luck comes in threes, and that has certainly been the case for the National Coastwatch Station at Aberystwyth,

So far this year they have been lucky enough through fundraising at events and the collection boxes, project support and donations to upgrade or purchase new items for this Welsh station, the first of which was to improve their VHF radio system to include a DSC radio. Many thanks go to David Mansell of Aberystwyth Coastguard team and a member of the Raynet team for very kindly fitting it for them.

The second bit of good news for the station this year was from the Aberystwyth Business Club who very kindly invited the NCI Aberyswyth team to give a presentation to their committee on who the National Coastwatch Institution is and what they do and specifically what NCI Aberystwyth, we as one of the NCI stations around the UK, do. The presentation was very well accepted by those present and within days the station was notified that they were to receive a cheque allowing them to purchase an upgrade to their weather station. A spokesperson for NCI Aberystwyth said “We were thrilled at this news and thanks to another NCI station and David Mansell from Aberystwyth Coastguard team and a member of Raynet along with some of his colleagues our new weather station is up and running and we are very happy with it. So thank you very much Aberystwyth Business Club”.

The third bit of good luck was a donation from the AF Blakemore Foundation (Spar) to purchase some external notice boards to enable the station to continue to provide information such as the Tide table for the month even when they are not on watch. An NCI Aberystwyth spokesperson “A big thank you to them for their support and also to Watchkeeper David for putting them up”.
