22nd July 2018. This weekend, the volunteers at NCI Cape Cornwall had a busy time with their fundraising – but the results were worth all the hard work.
This weekend saw the annual Lafrowda festival take place at St Just and NCI Cape Cornwall had a stall where they promoted the NCI and raised funds by selling their merchandise and raffling Morwenna the Mermaid that had been made and generously donated by Constance, one of their members. It was a busy day and the team of Jennifer, Elsie, Constance, Pat, Pauline, Pete M, Pete W, Hugh, Doug, Phil, Ian & Brian raised over £325.
At the same time, other team members were collecting at the Tesco supermarket in Penzance where Roland, Liz and Jonathan collected £367 in donations from the public. The following day Sarah, Doug, Toby and Elsie collected a further £345 in donations from the customers at Tesco Penzance. So over the weekend, Cape Cornwall raised a massive £1038 in donations from the public, which is quite probably a record for the NCI.
Richard Saynor, Station Manager at NCI Cape Cornwall said “Many thanks to the team for all their hard work. I am pleased to let you know that all your effort was worthwhile and over the weekend we managed to raise over £1000. Whilst many of the watchkeepers were busy collecting it shouldn't be forgotten that the Watch was up and running as usual so thanks to those watchkeepers who covered the watches”
