BBC NORTH WEST VISIT NCI FLEETWOOD

22nd June 2022. The National Coastwatch Institution station at Fleetwood became the latest NCI station to be featured in a television program.

On Friday the station was visited by Owain Wyn Evans and Lucy from BBC North West. They were there to film a feature on the station and what the NCI do for their new On the Map series, which was broadcast during the early evening North West programme.

And who do you think couldn't resist broadcasting the NCI Fleetwood lunchtime weather report while they were there? If you happened to be listening to the nautical airwaves in Lancashire, you might have heard Owain broadcasting the shipping and weather forecast on VHF Maritime Channel 65.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
