Torbay - QAVS

Welcome to the NCI Torbay station.

Visitor Policy
Visitors are most welcome at the lookout although, when an incident is ongoing, this may not always be convenient and the duty watchkeeper may ask visitors to call back later. New members:- if you are interested in joining NCI Torbay please contact the Membership Officer, Les Mainstone at: [email protected]
Access

The Station is located adjacent to the coastal footpath between Torquay Harbour and Daddyhole Plain. Access to the lookout Tower is via a set of external steps.

Local Hazards
Generally none. However, approach to the Tower from the West is via the relatively uneven coastal path. Access to the Tower from Daddyhole Plain car-park does require walking across the grassed surface of the Plain. Sometimes especially after heavy rain, the grass can be a little boggy.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
