The first step towards better toilet facilities, environmentally sound waste management and improved water provsion got underway 30/06/2020 when Jones Drainage and EDS Solutions undertook water percolation tests at Nare Point. The data will be included in the design details and will form part of the application to the Environment Agency for a permit.

Sunday August 2nd C watch The Looe Lugger Erin sails past NCI Nare Point in light winds during the early evening. Formerly a Pilchard driver she was built in 1904 by Arthur Frazier in Mevagissey. The yard building is now occupied by the Mevagissey Museum. Thanks to Don G for the image.

Pilgrim of Brixham BM 45 passing NCI Nare Point on Sunday July 4th inward bound into the Helford for a night at anchor off Durgan. Pilgrim was built by Uphams as  a Brixham Trawler in 1895. She later became a freighter in Germany and was involved in smuggling armaments to Norway in 1945. Now operated by the Pilgrim Heritage Foundation Trust out of Brixham. Thanks to Don G for the photo.

NCI Nare Point Watchkeeper Bill James and wife Melanie hosted and organized tea in the garden at their home, Millbrook, Pemboa on Saturday 21st August. The rain held off, the guitarist played, and visitors enjoyed tea and cakes, participated in the raffle and tombola and bought books and bric a brac, which altogether raised a very welcome £600 for NCI Nare Point.

Our stand on National Coastwatch Day at Three Tuns. A lovely evening attended by watch keepers, family and friends, raising £70.76. Together our two recent events at Three Tuns have raised £211.76 with possible new watchkeepers and a potential Friend of Nare Point. Our thanks to Three Tuns for their hospitality.

Details for our celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022
NCI Nare Point Watchkeepers received 5, 10 and 15 year service awards at the Station's 2022 AGM on 27th April. Presentations were made by John Strike whose family have been involved with the Coastguard for 200 years.

Monday 11th July – The High Sherriff of Cornwall, Andrew Williams and the National Chairman of NCI, Clive Pouncey, visited NCI Nare Point. One of Andrew’s charities for the year are the NCI stations in Cornwall. During his year of office, he is visiting all of the Stations in the county. Thanks to Lesley S for the photo.

NCI Nare Point celebrated  National  Coastwatch Day on July 24th by having a presence in Helford Village. Watckeepers staffed a stand in the village car park, visited Helford Sailing Club, the Shipwrights Arms and travelled across the river, courtesy of the ferry company, to the Helford Passage. A public access AED provided by the Ronnie Richards Memorial Charity was installed at NCI Nare Point on 5th August. This new installation was funded by the Goonhilly Wind Farm Fund through the Cornwall Community Foundation. The station is located in a relatively remote part of the South West Coastal Path and will be of benefit to walkers and to the Coastguard Rescue Team. 
 
The High Sheriff of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Andrew Williams, has selected the National Coastwatch Institution(NCI) as one of his charities during his tenure and has made a point of visiting every NCI station in the County. On Thursday 8th December he presented a series of awards for great service to the community to individual members of the NCI at a coffee morning in the picturesque setting of Lanhydrock Memorial Hall in front of an audience of fellow NCI members and their partners, Also attending was the former chair of the NCI Lesley Suddes, Sector Manager Jim Jefferis and National Board Secretary and Liaison Trustee Jonathan Rothwell representing the Board of Trustees of the charity. The event took place at Lanhydrock Memorial Hall.

Andrew Wiliams, High Sheriff of Cornwall, and Don Garman, station manager were today 23/01/2023 presented with a cheque for £534 by Louise Thurston, landlady of the Five Pilchards in Porthallow. The funds were raised for Nare Point NCI over Christmas with the proceeds from the Xmas quiz, a large hamper raffle, the auctioning of the hamper, by its winner, and a couple of 'Al Stewart' fan club T shirts
 High Sherrif Award
Andrew Williams, Cornwall's High Sheriff, visited Porthallow on the 23rd January to present NCI Nare Point Watchkeeper, Len Jepp with a High Sheriffs Award. The award recognised Len's excellent service to the station and to NCI. Len is a founder member of the station, was station manager for ten years, for a while was also treasurer and is now responsible for the Station's 50 - 50 Club. NCI Nare Point Service Awards representing 75 years of service at 2023 AGM. The formal opening of the new Information And Training Room by John Strike, whose family have been involved in the Coastguard Service for a combined period of 200 years. A talk by John to the Porthleven Christadelphians in the Autumn and the auction of photographs contributed to the funds raised to replace a window, lower the ceiling improve lighting and install storage cupboards. Watchkeepers undertook the decoration and mounting of display panels. Funding to transform the space was generously provided by the Porthleven Christadelphians, the Five Pilchards at Porthallow, The Helford Passage Car Park Trust, Cornwall Community Chest and two individuals. NCI Nare Point marked National Coastwatch Day by setting up a stand at Porthleven courtesy of the Harbour Inn from 10.00 - 17.30 staffed by eight watchkeepers, a trainee and a supporter. Funds were raised for the station and watchkeepers spoke to members of the public about NCI and water safety. One member of the public decided not to go paddle boarding having been pointed to the sea conditions, whilst another sought an explanation as to why the water had reduced in the harbour since the morning! Several visitors enquired about serving as watchkeepers. Splat the Rat and a Punch and Judy show entertained children and adults alike. Thanks to Alan R and Mike W for the pictures.

Watchkeepers and partners enjoyed an excellent festive lunch at Falmouth Golf Club on 14th January organised by Station Secretary Rod McCarron and Mary McCarron. A raffle of a wealth of prizes, including an amazing vegetable hamper donated by farmer Chris Hoskins and the auction of a brand new electric chain saw, raised £242.50.

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire. 

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
