Boscastle - QAVS

Welcome to the NCI Boscastle Lookout station.

NCI Boscastle is a recipient of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

The lookout, once a Summerhouse then a coastguard tower, is painted white; the flagstaff usually flies Cornish and National Coastwatch flags. The Union flag flies on appropriate occasions.

Please note that, due to daylight restrictions, the Station may not open until 0900 during December and January and may close at 1900 during April and September.

Visitor Policy
Visitors are normally most welcome at the lookout although, when an incident is ongoing, this may not always be convenient and the duty watchkeeper may ask visitors to call back later.
Access

Access is through a gate off the South West Coast Path running from Boscastle to Tintagel

Local Hazards
Ponies graze on the headland all year, and cattle graze on the cliffs in the winter months. The ponies are friendly but make sure they know you are there, and do not approach from behind them. The cattle are normally docile, but if there are calves or if you have a dog give keep well clear of them.

About

Currently almost 60 National Coastwatch stations are operational and manned by over 2600 volunteer watchkeepers around the British Isles from Fleetwood in the North West, through Wales, to the South and East of England to Filey in North Yorkshire.

National Coastwatch watchkeepers provide the eyes and ears along the coast, monitoring radio channels and providing a listening watch in poor visibility. They are trained to deal with emergencies offering a variety of skills and experience, and full training by the National Coastwatch ensures that high standards are met.
